Tarana is a type of composition in Hindustani classical vocal music in which certain words (e.g. "odani", "todani", "tadeem" and "yalali") based on Persian and Arabic phonemes are rendered at a medium (madhya laya) or fast (drut laya) rate.

Tarana is basically a bandish based on a particular raag, which does not have any meaningful lyrics. Instead of lyrics, bols are sung. The main component of tarana is meer, the style which is usually copied from instrumental music of sarod, sitar or shehnai.
