yes, it is possible with practice only, there are some techniques and vocal music exercises which which will make your voice melodious, throwful, energetic, rythmic etc. there is no age bar on music there are lot good musicians who started in the age of 33-35 and they became best in the field.

I dont think it makes much difference...some times you will get the only benefit of Scale....otherwise the teacher has to shift into your Scale to teach you but in same gender case, you will find no scale shifting issues...
