Electric violin needs a lot of setup, you will not learn tuning and other things if you use electric violin

There is no such compulsion. The only thing is that if some one gives you acoustic violin, you should be able to play it.

You should always go to the store and check out yourself by playing on different acoustic instruments. Even if they look the same, the sound won't! Play by yourself and pick the one you like.
