How do I start to teach painting classes for kids?

A child first needs to understand the structure of any object. So lines, circles, triangles, quadrilaterals should be practiced daily and later a complete subject should be drawn with these forms.

Do drawing classes also have you make your own art, instead of just drawing what's around you?

Of course. First we practice drawing which helps us recognize and draw the form of all the things around us. It is those forms that later shape our art practice.
