Experience in School or College
My name is Elena Smith. I was born and raised in Russia. I come from a family of educators. While pursuing languages and education as a student, I found myself continually reflecting upon the most effective ways to engage students as learners. My first teaching experience was as an English language professor at the Altai State Technical University of Barnaul, Russia. I taught English to young highly motivated adults from all over the world at the Department of World Economics and the English Department. My career in the US started in Arizona where I taught high school students on the Navajo Reservation. After arriving in Olympia, WA, USA, in 2007, I taught Russian language and Russian cultural studies at the Evergreen State College. Also, I volunteered to teach Russian studies at the Olympia Senior Center as I saw a need and an opportunity to connect with the elderly. Another rewarding experience I got working at SPSCC/Corporate and Continuing Education, when I taught an adult class of budding Russophiles. I am very interested in the position of a Russian and/or English Language Professor/Tutor. I think that my education background, my expertise working with diverse student populations and adult learners, my long-term experience as an educator, mentor, and facilitator will contribute to the success of any interested learner. Sincerely, Elena Smith 360-481-4687 helensonina@yahoo.com
