Hello Students, hope you are doing well!

As this is my first lesson on Urban Pro, so I thought to write something that can benefit you at a beginner level :)

I'm a Multimedia Professional, a Faculty in the same field as well, doing well in my profession. To share the knowledge I have is my hobby since my early childhood, and I'll continue it until my last breath! Professional details about me, you'll get in my profile.

Now let’s begin the class.

Before getting your first step in the field, actually in any area, you should know at least basics about that particular field. In general, if I say, so, first of all, you should know the what and how of the field, the scope, and most importantly, your interest...is it that you can do efficiently, or something else is better for you...???

For Multimedia & Designing field, some people might say that you should be good at computers, or you should be good at drawing, but believe me, the best student of mine, is also one who's very poor at drawing. Seriously, but as I said, she's my best student, I meant it! She's a good designer, as well as from commerce field too! I mean, there is no bar on the student that you should be from arts, science, commerce or any particular subject in high school or intermediate. Anybody can join the field without any pre-requisite degree.

It may sound shocking for some people, but all you need to be a good designer is the creativity. The imagination power. How much you can think of something, in how many ways you can interpret a design. That’s what matters. Everyone has their unique potential, and calibre.

Now let's interpret some rumours & myths that confuse our lovely & sweet students :)

To join a design field, you need to have:

Good Computer Knowledge: No! Every Institution teaches student basics of computers before starting the multimedia software. So you will get this thing when you join.

Fluent Drawing Skills: Not Mandatory, although a plus point! If the child has enthusiasm and passion for creating new things and exciting designs, drawing skills are not necessary. You will not use pencil and paper to figure out a design. Instead, computer graphics will be created by you. All you need is to have an understanding point of view.

Contacts in Industry: Not at all! :D If you'll become a good designer, you will create connections yourself. It is just a magical spell to keep the innocent students out of the field as the above rumours are taken as true by our elders.

Creativity and Passion: Must and the only requirement, to be a successful designer. All you need is this, and rest depends upon your command over software tools, which will be generated by practice.

So these were some negative points that you may come across, but make the final decision yours! Because, "If you do a thing that you don't want to, you can't do it at your best. However, if you do what you want, then no one can do it better than you!"

You will come across many Bhaiyas, Didis, Govt. job wale uncles and many more people around you who have achieved excellent heights in career but they will be negative about this field like, " it's about your luck. Kuch hona Nii h isme, agr luck lag gya kahin se tabhi success possible hai etc. " hahaha...!

But all these are the influence of above rumours on them! Even I, myself have changed minds of my many relatives and neighbours.

One more thing that I think is necessary is that people say that students who are weak in the study and so, are choosing design and animation field. That's what makes me lose temper and I want to strike them lol..!! But it's not true at all, its hurting :c Animation and design are also a field of study. These are a totally practical field that requires more attention and hard work than the so-called study like B.Tech, BCA, and all.... I'm not criticising any course or field, but just saying that we, multimedians also study, and keep exploring every day, because there is a new challenge, a new design, a new update coming in the market every day! Even I've always been a meritorious student of my times, since my early childhood to my latest education. So I completely deny this.

Finally, guys and girls, I'll suggest you join the field as it has a very fast, wide and exciting scope in industry, and also you can get different jobs like that of a graphic artist, animator, 3d modeller, video editor and many more by doing just one multimedia program. Even I started my career one year before completing my diploma course :)

All you need is to read this lesson thoroughly, explore multimedia yourself and then question yourself that

"Do you have that power which can make you the Designer of the Century...??"

When you get the answer, you can come to me for further guidance or training :)

Well, that's all for today's lesson, I hope that You didn't get bored :D :D and understood it well...!!

So Bye everyone, and take very good care of yourself,

Signing out for now, this is

Shubham Srivastava,

Multimedia Professional & Faculty, now Mentor as well :D :D

Guidelines: Choosing Audio/Sound/Music As A Career

Music and films are integral part of our lives. Many of us are passionate about the art. But very few understand the career aspect and what the industry is all about. Some of us are eager to learn the science and technology and are confused regarding choosing the learning path and the future prospects of this ever expanding field.

However, I will share some insights into this. Before you jump into the world of sound and music or films you must know that there are tremendous prospects in this field, some known and others unknown. The audio and film industry both requires some technical knowledge and a good taste in sound and film. One must learn to read film or learn how to appreciate listening to music as a professional. There are no Golden ears, just educated ears. All this requires acquiring an education, body of framework that provides reference for one to develop a skill. The technical and the aesthetics of the art. We must learn the rules or guidelines in order to bend or break them.

With immense patience and time and lots of work you will be able to close the gap between being an amateur and a professional.

Before you embark on preparing for this career, you should know what typical job duties you can expect to have. Here those we found when we looked at online ads for audio engineer and related positions listed on some websites:

i. "Minimize unwanted sounds on set."

ii. "Regulate volume levels and sound quality during recording sessions, using various types of professional field mixers."

iii. "Set up ambient sound microphones for crowd and cage."

iv. "Collaborate with producers, performers, and others to determine and achieve the desired sound for a production."

v. "Provide audio systems oversight of the show during production."

vi. "Set up and operate playback and reinforcement for theatre, opera, meetings, choral concerts, dance, symphony, jazz, country, pop, variety shows, and city events."

vii. "Play music and mix front of house audio for exciting live events."

viii. "Process audio to meet company’s quality standards."

ix. "Maintain and repair, and administer the repair of the equipment that you operate."

How to Become an Audio Engineer?

If you want to become an audio engineer you can attend a postsecondary vocational program for up to a year. There you will learn how to operate specialized equipment such as audio mixing consoles, equalizers, and microphones. After completing a program, you will receive a non-degree award or certificate. Some employers do not require you to attend school and will instead provide on-the-job training.

What Soft Skills Do You Need?

The set of hard skills audio engineers use on their jobs usually comes from a combination of formal or on-the-job training and experience. They also need certain soft skills, or personal qualities, to succeed in this occupation. They are:

a. Problem Solving:

When equipment malfunctions, the audio engineer must be able to identify the problem first. Then he or she must make the repairs and adjustments needed to make it work again.

b. Critical Thinking:

To fix problems, they must come up with alternative solutions and then figure out which will have the best results.

c. Manual Dexterity:

Setting up equipment, connecting wires, and using knobs and buttons to make adjustments requires excellent manual dexterity.

d. Monitoring:

Audio engineers must continuously monitor volume levels and sound quality.

e. Communication Skills: You need excellent listening and speaking skills to collaborate on projects with others.

What Will Employers Expect From You?

To learn about employers' required qualifications, we again turned to Indeed.com to examine job announcements for audio engineers:

i. "Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of a project by a specific due date."

ii. "Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously."

iii. "Strong ability to learn new technologies."

iv. "Ability to constructively collaborate in a results oriented team."

v. "Demonstrated success in the creation of superb content under pressure."
