Saree draping is effortless; it will just take few minutes or a few seconds; that's how I have learnt. :) Saree has been age-old fashion, and it can never go wrong on anybody. Hence drape it well (iron your saree before wearing it to fall well while you wear it). :)

A practical approach to Communication & Spoken English and Misunderstandings

While working as a Professor in Communication & Soft Skills in reputed university and conducting workshops with other organizations, I came to know that people have a lot of confusion about the understanding of communication. I want to share my experince here.

Three areas of communication

1. Language (Spoken English)

2. Communication Skills

3. Self Confidence for Public Speaking

1. Language :

Most students want to develop English communication, so they feel spoken English is the only communication. Even many students have misunderstood that spoken English is the only personality development. Here you have to get clarity English is just language for communication even native of Britan needs communication skills. English is just language, like any other language.

2. Communicative English

Communication is needed to accomplish the goals. To express emotions, to achieve shared understandings, Get the things done, develop the relationship.pass on and obtain the information. Meaning of communication is the response you get.

3. Self Confidence Building for Public Speaking

Due to shyness or fear, many people can not express their ideas or feelings adequately in front of others even though they are fluent in English. Some times it may indicate shyness, stage fear, public fear etc.

Conclusion: Spoken English, communicative English and self-confidence building has to deal separately.

Manage Your Stress
Three essential things create stress; if you can manage this, you will get good relief from anxiety. Developing understanding about these following things and overcoming it one can lead a happy and stress-free life.

1. Hurry:

If we are doing any work hurriedly definitely, we are getting stress. Anyone who is doing work speedily it indicates that the person is weak in planning, organization skills are not upto the mark. Punctuality is missing; discipline is lacking.

Without proper discipline, organization skills, punctuality and planning person always getting stress. So these qualities and habits are very much essential to become peaceful.

In hurriedly doing work, there are always chances to commit a mistake or even accidents. Ethical decision making is not possible if a person is in a hurry.

2. Worry:

Worry, fear or anxiety comes only when a person is over conscious about the future. He or she does not have that understanding and skills to stay in the present. Unrealistic and illogical thinking leads people to stress. So worry is a negative emotion, and that is leading to stress and unhappiness. We are worried about our future, children's education, children's future, once we will understand the skills of staying in present many problems will solve automatically. Problems are not in circumstances or situation, our ability to respond and incapable mind state is the main reason to get anxiety, fear and worry. If anyone who understands to manage the state of mind, he can handle the concern. Reframing is an excellent tool for managing stress.

3. Curry:

Curry or spicy food is creating more acidic nature in the stomach. That acidic nature converts into acidity problem for an individual. Almost 80 to 90% illness is happening due to our lousy eating habit pattern. Lifestyle is closely related to eating and sleeping. The chemical and hormonal imbalance creates stress.

Conclusion:

To avoid stress, one must have to overcome hurry, worry and curry. Eat as per your need do not eat as per your wish. Most of the time, from observation, we can understand emotions hijack our intellect.

How to convert your dream into Goal

If we want to convert the dream into Goal, two important tools are given below.

SMART & 5D

S: Specific

M: Measurable

A: Achievable

R: Realistic

T: Time-bound

Specific: Goal Should be specific; for example, someone says I will do hard work, I will study more, I will earn more money, I can reduce my weight. These are not specific goals. One has to say I can reduce 2 kg in One month, 1-inch belly in one month. I can earn 2 Lakh per month; I will study 3 hours per day,  these are all specific goals.

Measurable: If you can't measure, you can not improve. Measurement is very important. We must have to know whether we are going away from Goal or towards the Goal.

Achievable: Goal should be achievable

Realistic: Whatever Goal it should be realistic

Time-bound: Goals must be time-bound. One must have to give a specific deadline to it.

D:Direction

D: Dedication

D:Determination

D: Discipline

D: Deadline

Direction: How fast you are going that is not more important but which direction you are going that is more important. The direction is more important in goal setting. If you want to convert the dream into goal direction is very much important.

Dedication: It is quality of being committed toward the task or work without full involvement in that work desired result is impossible. So dedication plays a vital role.

Determination: Strong determination is quality of successful people. Failure people will take more time to make a decision and changes the decision very frequently. At the same time, successful people take the decision fast and stick with it. Strong determination is needed to convert the dream into Goal.

Discipline: If a person has everything, for example, knowledge, skill, attitude, but he or she is not disciplined, do you feel that he or she can achieve Goal? No. Certainly not. Discipline is a must to achieve anything.

Deadline: Without the deadline, it is just a dream. So if we want to convert the dream into Goal, it has to be deadlines. The Goal has to be accomplished in stipulated time then only it is GoalGoal or else dreams.

Problem-solving

What is the Problem?

Generally, I asked this question in my workshops many times to my participants, "what is the problem?",  that time they replied My Boss is a problem, my mother is a problem, my father is a problem, my employees are a problem, my neighbour is a problem, the situation is a problem, hurdles are the problem. Different answers came from their side.

Do you feel these are the problems no certainly not?

Approach to problem-solving: The difference or gap between the desired state and the present state is the problem. It means where you are now and what you want to become in between gap is the problem.

Gap Analysis?

Understanding the gap analysis is very essential to solve any problem. The gap may be Qualification, Knowledge, skills, attitudes etc.

  1. Knowledge
  2. Attitude
  3. Skills Set :
  • Hard skills
  • Technical skills
  • Soft skills
  • Life skills
  • Professional Skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Enterprising skills etc.

Thinking out of box

As Einstein rightly said On which level of thinking we have created a problem we can not solve on the same level of thinking.

Reframing:

If we will change the frame automatically perception changes

Reference point

If we change our reference point, we can easily change our model of reality and take decisions without bias.

Changing the perceptual positions

We are habitual for one type of thinking pattern and view once we change our position and can from others position we get a better understanding about situations.

Equanimity

If we will develop the skills seeing the things as it is we can avoid any problem.

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) & Purpose of communication

What is NLP?

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is a simple and skilful method to understand what is going on inside the mind of a person, how he or she think, perceive and process the information. Dr Richard Bandler and Dr John Grinder around 1970 at California University did a lot of research. They developed a new technology they combined Virginia stairs Family therapy, Friz Perls Gestalt therapy and Milton Erickson's Hypnotherapy.

Purpose of Communication:

After 15 years of research around 1985, Dr John Grinder, who was a linguistic professor at California University, concludes that people are not communicating randomly. They have intention behind the communication.

So he concluded that the meaning of communication is to get the response.

Useful tips for effective communication:

  • Purpose of communication has to be clear.
  • To fulfil the intention of communication one must-have a strategy
  • One must have to give meaning to it.
  • If you are not getting the desired result change your strategy.
  • Develop flexibility
  • Respect the others model of reality
  • See the verbal and non-verbal cues
  • constrain the emotions
  • Simplify the language
  • Listen actively
  • Be empathetic
