According to me for TOEFL and IELTS intermediate knowledge of grammar, vocabulary is a must for writing tasks. Style of writing compound complex sentences is also important. Moreover development of good listening would help you in scoring more. Minimum 2.5 m months of preparation is a must.

The best way to prepare for TOEFL is refer to various test samples, that help you to have an idea about the test format. Concentrate on grammar concepts, sentence structuring as well. Along with this, practice all modules daily at least for 2 hours.

Download the sample IBT TOEFL test from the ETS website. Take a sample test, and practice speaking clearly and good enunciation of each word as your speaking. Try to avoid stuttering or digression from the topic. Stay on point.
