As an Indian student, do I need to give the TOEFL exam for applying in U.S. universities? What will happen if I don't give it?

Yes most universities in US have TOEFL as an essential criteria for admission, but it would be good to go to the university site and see which tests are required for eligibility. If it is an essential criteria and you do not answer TOEFL, you will not be eligible to get admission in that university.
