In these situations, I use a simple technique. That is every major chord is like a pleasant feeling of happiness. Minor is like a sad mood (it depends upon your mood ). In some situations, it may be changed. For example, the minor gives a pleasant mood on the bm scale.
And also every scale has major and minor chords. You can take major or minor within the scale (as per the mood of the song and continuity).
