It is not that 'R' is never pronounced. It is pronounced in some words, and in some other it is silent. Usually, it is quiet when a consonant ex follows it. Turn, burn, curd, girl. But in words like as cream, credit, breach, area etc. it is pronounced. But it is not pronounced as it is done in Indian languages.
