Hi Jogendra- Hope you are well!! Filters and Parameters both can be used to filter out the subset of data but Filters doesn't require any additional calculated fields or customization but parameters to be actionable they have to be used in a calculated field else they dont filter out Scenario : To calculate Year over Year for any Metric like sales Lets say if you have 2023,2024 and when you apply filter on year 2024 and want to calculate YOY it doesn't allow because the data is filtered for 2024 and the dataset has only 2024 data so it can't compare but with Parameters you can achieve this by creating a year parameter and using that in a calculated field Inshort mostly parameters are used for Time period related logics, dynamic kpi or dynamic dimension etc Hope this helps!! Dont' hesistate to reachout for further enquiries or online coaching Thanks Chaitanya read less

Imagine you have a giant bag of mixed candy (your data). Filters: These are like sieves. You can choose what kind of candy you want to see (like chocolate or sour) to focus on a specific type. You can even pick multiple types to compare them. Parameters: These are like dials. Imagine a dial for color. You can turn it to see only red candy, then blue candy, and so on. The whole bag (data) updates depending on your choice. Filters help you see specific parts of your data. Parameters let you change what you see dynamically by adjusting a setting. Both filters and dials (parameters) are helpful for exploring your giant bag of candy (data) in different ways! read less

In Tableau, filters and parameters are both used to control the data displayed in your visualizations, but they have different purposes and functionalities. Filters Filters are used to restrict the data that is displayed in a view based on certain criteria. They directly interact with the data source and limit the data that is fetched from it. Here are some key points about filters: Data Restriction: Filters restrict the data at the data source level, which means only the data that meets the filter criteria is brought into Tableau's visualization engine. read less
