Hello, There are mainly four parts to be focused when a person is trying to learn a new language. They are Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Many people concentrate only on one part. The learner have to concentrate on the four parts equally and have to practice each one of them. Reading - newspapers, articles, blogs - try all different type of passages from various fields. Writing - The main mistake people do here is they just learn about the grammar but actually don't implement the principles. Just start writing about some topic, so that you would know in which areas of grammar you need to improve. Speaking - When we talk with our friends or relatives, we tend to talk in our native language as it is more comfortable for us. But, when we actually start speaking in English our fluency level and accent would be improved. Listening - Most of the people ignore this part. But, I personally think that it is equally important to listen to speeches, talks of various people all around the globe by which you could improve your level of understanding in English. The main mistake a lot of people commit is not practicing every day. read less

Typical mistakes made by an English language learner are - a) Mistake in use of articles 'a', 'an' and 'the' b) Mistake in use of nouns that act 'singular' but refer to more than one thing. A family or group is made up of more than one person, but functions like a single unit in sentences. c) Mistake in use of adverbs / adjectives. 'Well' is an adverb. 'Good' is an adjective. e.g. You ran well but your run was good d) Use of prepositions- Every language uses them a bit differently. In English 'in' is used both for closed spaces and periods of time. 'At' is used for a specific time or place and 'on' is used to describe the surface. e) SVO word order- The subject-verb-object word order. The subject is always necessary f) Pronouns- Mixing up of 'he' and 'she' g) 3rd person 's'- When using 3rd person singular (he, she ,it) always add an '-s' to the end of verb. This is often omitted. h) Don't- The use of 'don't' in negative sentences. In English you must add 'do' and 'not' to convey a negative meaning. i) Apostrophes- These are used in contractions or to show possession. But, they are not used with possessive pronouns like his, her or their j) Capitalization- In English, we capitalize 1) 'I' as a subject 2) First letter of sentence 3) proper names, national nouns, adjectives 4) Days of the week, months. This is often omitted by learners. - Nishant Bhatt read less
