Difference in House and Home

M

I have often found people not using home and house appropriately and also using prepositions with both which is wrong. Let me quickly explain the difference here.

House:

A physical location (Makaan, structure).

Hence one should use the preposition to/from/in etc. before it as appropriate.

Use of adjectives like your, my, her, his, their, that, and this are also to be used before house.

Home:

A mental state or a feeling of being in a comfort zone...it does not exist in reality.

Since it is not a physical entity one cannot use prepositions before it.

Do not use adjectives either.

Examples:

Can I come to your house? ( to, your)

Come I come home?

Let's go to my house.( to, my)

Let's go home.

Feel at home (feeling of comfort) in my house.
