The best way to answer this question is to look at the total number of native Spanish-speakers in the U.S. over time, their percentage of the total population over time, and the rate of immigration from Spanish-speaking countries. There should be a balance between the two. Listening is equally important as reading. Reading gives you insight of the theory, enhances your vocabulary and keeps you aware of the Grammar of that language...
