Understanding risk management would help HR professionals identify where risks are originating from - it could be with hiring, contracting, retention etc. It will help you come up with different strategies to deal with different types of risk.

Risk management involves lot of maths and stats understanding which probably may not have been your major area of study. I am not discouraging you but just making you aware of the pros and con's.
