No, in fact it’s easier.
The main barrier to learning German in almost any German-speaking environment these days is knowing too much English, because then most native German speakers will just switch to English.
If you already know too much English, then do your best to pretend that you do not. This is true for learning many other languages of course, not just German. And true for some other linguae francae, not just English
