I have been teaching English in the under graduate level for a while now. I normally start teaching a text by assisting the students in understanding the socio-political context within which a particular work is written and the influence it had on the author. This is done alongside learning about the author. Additionally, we look at the different literary movements, analyse the features of each genre type and conduct a comparative analysis of texts written by other authors on the same themes or same techniques and styles. We also look at writer's effect through the analysis of literary devices of the works under scrutiny.
