Infact it is a good question., this is a common question in everyone's mind, people normally think that getting a testing job is easy compared to other jobs (as in developer etc.,), but one should understand the future of testing, the scope of development, visibility and what is your future if just in case you come into testing. Whether you are become a tester by accident or intentionally, testing is a process which exists in every project, every domain such as Real estate, Retail, CRM, Investment banking, Asset Management, commodity and Equity trading etc. Where ever you go and what ever project you do TESTING is one of the important job which validates, determines the quality of the project or the deliverables. Keeping that in mind it is obvious that your skill needs to be improved whether it is manual or automation with the growing needs. To keep it simple the approach of testing or the mind set of testing obviously needs to be matured when testing a retail website versus if you are working a banking project (which might need to deal with lots of real time data testing, DB testing, P&L etc.) To add to this everyone thinks testing always has a boundary to grow as in after Tester what ? According to me there is a lot of scope of improvement and growth which i want to explain in a simple way below : Tester -> Sr. Tester -> Manager QA -> Manager QA /PM and so on Tester -> Sr. Tester -> Manager QA -> Manager QA / BA (this is a very interesting way to looking into future of testing) Tester -> Automation Tester -> Automation Specialist -> Manager Automation / PM. How fast you acquire particular skills is important and what is the path that you are looking at is important. Hope this explanation would help. read less

Future of testing is AUTOMATION , doesn't matter which tool and scripting language you are using it. but what i can understand from current market trend and customer expectations is everything which can be automated has to be automated. Also, it's never a easy task to automate all logical validations using some code so functional testing of next level/generation is also going to be challenging. Future of testing will be like 2:1 , what i mean is due to increase in software complexity soon we will need to double the count of testers compared to developers. As of now i see in market we are following maximum 1:1 or sometimes even less than that but am sure in coming years we will see more testing involved and ratio is going to increase read less

Testing should really add value and deliver fast feedback to the team. Everything else delaying the feedback loop needs to be taken seriously and improved; delay holds back the required speed in the continuous delivery pipeline. We think that testing should occur alongside development to keep the feedback loops in testing as short as possible. Testing should not become the bottleneck for continuous delivery teams. It should help the teams decrease bugs in production and increase releases to production. The activity of the tester in 2020 will focus more on continuous monitoring and reporting deviations in production. Monitoring the impact a code change has made is one of the most important activities in testing. It will help the organisation in visualising the real value of the solution. Like more users or sales, all depending on what quality attribute you want to measure and is valuable to measure. read less

As long as the Development Industry Exists, Testing Will Exists. May be changing its Forms, Methods and Tools Every professional has to upgrade themselves according to the Prevailing Demand from the Employers/Projects. I have seen many peoples who are expert in Manual Testing but had never Tried to Learn Automated Testing Tools but rather they simply start looking for the Same role and try to Jump to a Different Company!!! Rather, they could have UPGRADED their skills to AUTOMATED TESTING and would become a Preferred Employee. Ensure you stay Ahead in your chosen VERTICAL Regards Shiva read less

What if I tell you, its already dead? Yes, you heard it right! it doesn't have a future if its taken as just the number of test cases or traceability metrics or such big jargon words rather than taking in real meaning of testing. The future, a very bright future exist if 1. The shift from "number of test cases" to "risk coverage" is actually taken sincerely in work. 2. Decreased Time to market: Automated Testing and CI is the way to go 3. Virtualised world, cloud computing, sensors, actuators, private jets, robots, AI, machine learning : are you ready and able to Test them with 0 error rate! 4. Is your test data bank is ready to simulate real user behaviour before it goes to production?
