You can learn a lot just using the Python Shell but eventually you will want to move to writing and being able to save multi-line scripts, and edit them, and run them without needing to retype them - and to do that the Shell won’t cut it. Having said all of that - PyCharm (or any full featured IDE) is not a good choice for a beginner. You need to be able to understand exactly what you need to do to execute your scripts etc, whereas an IDE can hide all/some/most of those decisions - meaning that you could get issues; a large number of beginners can struggle because their code works in the IDE but not outside (or vice versa) and don’t have the knowledge to even start to diagnose the problems. I would say when you need to do multi-line scripts then start with a simple text editor; get used to running and configure Python, and virtual environments, and installing libraries, and drive change control; learn those aspects and then when you are comfortable you can use an IDE to remove some of the drudgery. read less
