Dutch does not have the "th" sound because this sound disappeared from the language long ago, specifically before the 12th century, in continental West Germanic dialects. Instead of a "th" sound, the sound evolved into a "t" or "d" sound, a process observed in Old Dutch where words like thing became the modern Dutch ding.
