Bengal was partitioned in 1905 by the then Viceroy of India Lord Curzon. Although the Britishers said it was difficult to administer the large province of Bengal, the real motive was to weaken the nerve centre of the Indian nationalism, i.e. Bengal. It was the divide and rule policy of Britishers, dividing the Hindus and the Muslims.
