Pianos and keyboards are both musical instruments, but they differ in several ways, including: Sound Pianos are acoustic instruments, so the sound is produced when the hammer hits the strings. Keyboards are electronic, so the sound comes from the keyboard's processor and electronic components. Keys Pianos typically have 88 fully-weighted keys, while keyboards usually have 61–88 lightweight keys. Tuning Pianos need to be tuned regularly, which can be expensive. Keyboards never need to be tuned. Portability Pianos are heavier and less portable than keyboards. Sound options Keyboards often have a variety of instrument options, including piano, strings, horns, synthesizers, and organs. Headphones Keyboards can often be plugged into headphones, allowing you to practice without disturbing others. Playing softly or loudly It's generally not possible to play softly or loudly on a keyboard, as the key will feel the same no matter how it's pressed. Sound experience Keyboards can provide an immersive playing experience with headphones, even if you don't have a large space with adequate acoustics. When choosing between a piano and a keyboard, you can consider factors like your budget, level of proficiency, available space, and intended use. read less
