It is entirely possible, but if this is your first instrument, it is not advised for the following reasons: 1. Slow progress: Since you don't know what you are doing when it comes to music, you wouldn't have a direction for learning. There are some amazing youtube videos out there that can solve this problem, but finding them is not easy for everyone. 2. Bad habits and technique: Bad posture and playing technique can hurt your hands. There are lots of piansts who don't understand the importance of proper technique and hurt their hands because there is no one to tell them what they are doing wrong. 3. Limited vision: If you want to be a well rounded pianist, a teacher has the ability to look at your playing objectively and give you little tricks and tips they have learnt from experience that will have a drastic effect on your sound. This is not possible to do yourself because your entire focus will be on playing. Even pro sports people have coaches, even though they are already masters at what they do. There is good reason for that. read less
