How can I prevent giving up on learning to play the piano?

As a teacher i will suggest you to try to connect with your instrument. Always remember that less is more. That's the golden rule. Practice your instrument only when you feel like playing. Always learn from a teacher who is able to connect with you emotionally. You will succeed. Good luck
