Is knitting arts and crafts?

Yes. It can be both an art and a craft. There are various definitions of what constitutes an art or a craft but one of my favourite definitions is that a craft produces something to be used, an art produces something to be enjoyed. Obviously, a knitted object can be both useful and enjoyable. A Shetland lace shawl can be both beautiful and useful. An amigurumi of a pop fiction character can be enjoyable. A knitted sweater with stunning colors and entails is both an art and a craft. If you define an art as something that is more natural talent than learning, and a craft as the opposite, then again, knitting can be both something you just have an eye for combining colors and stitch patterns, but also simply takes time and practice to master. read less
