A covalent bond is a type of bond in which pairs of electrons are shared between two atoms. It is also known as Molecular Bond. As carbon is tetravalent, i.e. it has four valence electrons, it can neither lose nor gain an electron to attain noble gas configuration. That's why it forms a covalent bond.
