You know one thing; nitrogen is much loved upper atmosphere and had a strong triple bond in it, that's why the plant doesn't get nitrogen directly. But it is essential for the plants. Nature overcomes this issue in raining time.
How? As we know that lightning is heavy electric power, so it breaks nitrogen is dissolved in water. But it's not absorbable for plants, the fantastic bacterias in legume plant convert that substance to a nitrate form this is known as nitrogen fixation.
P.S: Learn this process through the nitrogen cycle diagram; you never forget this concept.
