Hello, I have completed my Oracle DBA certification on 9I 5 years back but somehow I stuck working with support industry with ITIL related stuff. Now I want to switch my profile. Is it possible if I brush up my skills and try for a technical profile? I want to get into Oracle related profile.

Yeah you can. But Oracle DBA certification 5 years back will not help you. DBA is completely dependent on hand on exercise. Abhishek it's little hard to move with DBA. Because within 5 years oracle changed lots. DBA jobs completely depend on hand on exercise. But honestly speaking 5 years of old DBA certification it may Oracle11g will not help me more. Try to learn pl SQL or OBIEE which will be a comparatively good market and easy to learn. Abhishek it's touch to move with DBA after 5 years. DBA jobs fully depends on hands on exp. You can try with pl./sql or OBIEE. Or you can try any fusion middle ware software like SOA, forms & reports.

Hi Abhishek, if you did your Oracle 9i OCP with proper knowledge and experience, I don't think it would be tough for you return to DBA fold. Through Oracle has moved a lot since 9i, the fundamentals are mostly same. I would suggest you to first learn about Oracle 11g and then move to the latest 12c....

Oracle DBA seems to be evergreen area. Though with Cloud offerings market shares are getting changed. It will be easy to upgrade your skills to latest and greatest in Oracle as you have background, but you may also want to assess cloud solutions out there from AWS/Azure/Oracle.
