This course is designed for students pursuing IBDP Visual Arts, Cambridge IGCSE Art & Design (0400), and Cambridge International AS & A Level Art & Design (9479). It is ideal for learners who wish to strengthen their technical abilities, develop a personal artistic voice, build a high-quality portfolio, and prepare for coursework, exhibitions, and external assessments. The course supports both emerging and advanced artists by providing structured guidance while encouraging independent creative exploration.
Students will develop the key attributes required for success in international art curricula, including observation, experimentation, critical thinking, reflection, communication, and creative problem-solving. Through a range of drawing and painting projects, they will explore composition, perspective, color theory, visual analysis, artistic intention, and contextual research. Students will work with a variety of traditional and digital media, including pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, gouache, acrylic, oil paint, Procreate, and Adobe Photoshop.
The course places strong emphasis on sketchbook development, process portfolios, personal investigations, artist research, and independent studio practice. Students will learn how to generate and refine ideas, document artistic processes, analyze artworks, and establish meaningful connections between their own work and that of historical and contemporary artists. Students should bring basic art materials and, where applicable, access to digital art software, along with curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to experiment and take creative risks.
