I am a Math's Teacher & giving home/online tuitions from the last 7 years from class 4 to 10th standard. Normally the sessions are designed in a way that would provide maximum output of the topic to the students. The student is first asked to read the topic from book for 5 mins, just to allow his attention on the session. He is then asked about the inference of the topic as per his understanding.

After this stage, the topic is explained to the student in detail, starting with simple problems to complex problems. The student is given sometime to adjust his understanding on the topic & come up with doubts. The doubt clearing sessions allows the student to bridge the gaps in their understanding & then move on to practice more complex problems from multiple sources.
