Centripetal Force Consider a stone of mass m tied to thread if we whirl it we could see it moving in a circular path with a velocity assumed as v. So what keeps the stone move towards the centre? This is what we call Centripetal force. The Centripetal force is the force which keeps the body move along the axis of rotation and this force is acting always towards the center. The Centripetal force formula is given by Where m = mass of the moving body, V = Velocity with which it is moving, r = radius of circular path. The Centripetal force is due to the Centripetal acceleration and is given by Where ac is the Centripetal acceleration and is given by v 2 r . The Centripetal force is expressed in Kgm/s2 or N. Centrifugal Force/Accelaration The acceleration is the rate of change in the velocity of a moving body with respect to the given time. The acceleration can be classified according to the type of velocity and speed. If the body is in constant velocity then it is in the condition of constant acceleration because there is no change in velocity in the given time period. If a body is moved on circular path then it has a rotational acceleration due to rotational acceleration. Similarly, some other types of accelerations are centripetal and centrifugal acceleration. Here we are discussing about the centrifugal acceleration. The centrifugal acceleration is the acceleration that is on the curved path. When a car takes a U turn on the curved way then it does not fall towards the centre. This is due to the centrifugal acceleration which makes the motion of the car.
