I have dealt with students who are far below average when compared to their counterparts. And in the end, the only strategy that worked for me was patience and friendly behaviour. My students performed well later on. All you need is to gain their trust.

All you need to do is start speaking in English, whatever you know. Doesn't matter if you initially make mistakes. But continuously communicating in this language will help you have a grasp on this language.
