Not at all. Singing is about ear training. How better and accurate you can listen to a melody in your head and then sing it with confidence and power is what all singing is about.

People sing on top of backing track and eventually you'll notice yourself going out of tune and when you sing it again you'll force yourself to sing on the same scale as the backing trackn and that's how you'll learn how to be in scale. Take another example you might feel like the flow og your vocals is not right that's when you'll infuse your own style with the backing track and make your vocals flow with it. Don't let any statement stop you from trying things differently and that's what music is all about. :) read less

So if you have a proper speaker that can produce good music, You can use it as a reference point to sing and practice correct notes/rhythm. You need to understand your goal. Sometimes students get stuck in instruments and unable to focus on singing. Learn instruments only if you enjoy the instruments. Is itreally helping you to sing better? If you want to learn singing, focus on that only. At the last, remember to experiment. My or other's opinion is not 100% accurate for everyone. Try yourself and then decide.
