1) Carbon monoxide (CO) is considered to be more toxic or hazardous than Carbon Dioxide (CO2) due to the fact that CO reacts with the hemoglobin in our blood streams and produces a stable compound that actually prevents oxygen from entering the body. However, CO2 is more tolerable in a human body because we are able to exhale it. And it doesn't have the same chemical properties that CO has. CO2 doesn't react with the hemoglobin in our blood streams. To be more specific there is a reaction between CO and the hemoglobin in our body that occurs while on the other hand the CO2 doesn't. Basicly, the hemoglobin is an oxygen binding protein, and CO is more ready to share it's oxygen atom with the hemoglobin than the CO2. 2) True that matter cannot be created or destroyed. First of all, the catalytic converter doesn't create or destroy the CO. All it does is that it binds a new oxygen to the chemical formula. And when it is yielded the formula of CO becomes 2CO2. The chemical reaction looks like this: 2CO + O2 --> 2CO2 If you count the amount is oxygens and carbons on both sides, you'd see that it balances. 2 carbons and 4 oxygens on the left side. Two carbons and 4 oxygens on the right side. 3) Hemoglobin is a protien in the blood stream that is readily accepts oxygen and delivers it to different parts of the body. 4) CO is damaging to the environment because it is not accepted by any biological species. On the other hand, CO2 is used by plants everywhere tk help make glucose. It is an essential part in the process of photosynthesis.
