Hi Vikas,
Most Executive MBA programs(1 year) consider GMAT for admission. A score of 750+ is deemed to be ideal for top IIM calls; however, anything above 675 is good enough to get you the rings). That being said, some schools still consider CAT for EMBAs like IIM Kozhikode, IIM Shillong & IIM Rohtak.
The right answer for when do you start studying for CAT or GMAT is right now. However, understanding your context, I believe the following should offer you some guidelines -
For top scores in CAT, it is recommended that you put in somewhere between 300-500 hours of serious preparation.
For GMAT, you may need to put in a little lesser - 150 - 300 hours of serious preparation for top scores.
The strategy employed for preparing for the tests and acing them differs vastly as the examination structure is quite different.
