This law states that in a chemical reaction, the total mass of the reactants must be equal to the total mass of the products. This means that no atoms are created or destroyed during a chemical reaction; they are simply rearranged.

(b) To balance the chemical equation:

Na + H3O → NaOH + H2

The balanced equation is:

2Na + 2H3O → 2NaOH + H2

This equation is balanced because there are the same number of each type of atom on both sides of the reaction arrow, which satisfies the Law of Conservation of Mass.

The assertion (A) is correct, and the reason (R) is also correct. (A) states the balanced chemical equation for the reaction of steam with iron, which results in the formation of iron(II,III) oxide (Fe3O4) and hydrogen gas (H2). This equation is indeed balanced because the number of atoms of each element on both sides of the equation is the same, which adheres to the law of conservation of mass.

(R) correctly mentions the law of conservation of mass, which is a fundamental principle in chemistry. It states that in a chemical reaction, the total mass of the reactants should equal the total mass of the products. Therefore, the mass of the atoms involved remains constant, and this law is upheld in balanced chemical equations like the one provided in assertion (A).
