I am a Bharatanatyam artist and dance educator with a deep passion for preserving and sharing the beauty of Indian classical dance. For me, Bharatanatyam is much more than a dance form—it is a powerful medium of storytelling, self-expression, discipline, and cultural heritage. Over the past two years, I have been teaching Bharatanatyam to students of different age groups and skill levels, helping them develop both technical proficiency and artistic confidence.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree and have dedicated several years to learning and practicing Bharatanatyam. My formal training includes a three-year Bharatanatyam certification, completed in the year 2000, along with a one-year diploma in the same discipline. These academic and practical experiences have provided me with a strong foundation in classical dance techniques, theory, and performance practices, which I bring into every class I teach.

My dance journey has been enriched by intensive training under Guru Maa Smt. Madhubani Chatterjee, with whom I underwent two years of focused Bharatanatyam training. Learning under the guidance of an experienced guru helped me understand the finer aspects of the art form, including mudras, expressions, rhythm, body movements, and stage presentation. This training has shaped my teaching philosophy and continues to inspire my growth as both a performer and an educator.

In addition to my training, I have gained valuable experience teaching Bharatanatyam to children. Working with young learners has taught me the importance of patience, encouragement, and personalized instruction. I understand that every student learns at a different pace, and I strive to create a comfortable and motivating environment where students feel confident exploring and developing their abilities. My aim is to help learners not only master dance techniques but also appreciate the cultural and emotional depth of Bharatanatyam.

My teaching methodology is structured, practical-oriented, and designed to build a strong foundation step by step. Each lesson focuses on proper posture, basic adavus, mudras, rhythm, coordination, and facial expressions. As students progress, I gradually introduce more advanced movements and choreography while ensuring that their fundamentals remain strong. Regular practice sessions, constructive corrections, and performance-oriented training help students improve consistently and develop confidence in their dancing abilities.

I also have experience contributing to Rabindra Nath Tagore’s Nritya Natya and Rabindra Sangeet performances, which have broadened my artistic perspective and understanding of dance as a form of storytelling. These experiences have strengthened my ability to blend technique with expression, an aspect that I emphasize in my classes. I believe that dance should not only be performed correctly but should also convey emotions and connect with the audience.

I offer both online and offline classes, making learning accessible and convenient for students. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students can develop discipline, creativity, and self-expression through dance. As I continue my own learning journey and plan to pursue a Master’s degree in the future, I remain committed to sharing my knowledge, nurturing young talent, and helping students discover the joy and elegance of Bharatanatyam.
