Santanu Pramanik took his education from Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, one of the premier institutions in India. He was prominent and creative minded from the very beginning of his student life. He had privileged of being the student of the eminent artist Late Mrinal Roy. He also received guidance from Late Purnendu Pattrea.
Though Santanu started his career as Art Instructor since 1982, he also has a versatile experience as an Illustrator for Color Comics (for news paper), Art Director (a Bengali Sport Weekly) , Art Director for Shop Window Display (Johnson and Johnson) , Copywriter and Senior Visualizer of Advertising Agency (TS McCann - Erickson) , Advertising Designer (a Bengali Daily) and over all In-charges in a Bengali Weekly. He also got the opportunity to serve as a Lecturer in Art College since 1983.
An innovative art teacher, Santanu has many student, working actively in the fields like Advertising, Architecture, Fashion Design, Textile Design, Web Design, Drawing and Painting, Graphics, Sculpture, Set Designing, Multimedia etc in India and abroad.
