Jasashwi Chowdhury

I am Jasashwi Chowdhury, a classical dance educator specializing in Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, and Rabindra Nritya. I have been teaching these art forms for the past 6 years, guiding students through structured training that focuses on both technical excellence and expressive depth. My teaching approach is rooted in discipline, tradition, and a deep respect for the cultural heritage of Indian classical dance.

I have pursued my Graduation and Post-Graduation in Kathakali from Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, which has given me a strong academic and practical foundation in this classical dance form. In addition, I have completed my Sangit Visharad in Bharatanatyam from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. My training across multiple classical traditions allows me to bring a diverse and well-rounded perspective to my teaching.

Along with Bharatanatyam and Kathakali, I am also well-versed in the Santiniketan style of Rabindra Nritya. I focus on teaching the expressive nuances, storytelling elements, and character interpretations found in Tagore’s dance dramas. This helps students develop a deeper emotional connection with the art form while understanding its cultural and literary significance.

Over the years, I have worked with students of different age groups and skill levels. My experience has helped me understand that each learner progresses differently in classical dance, and I therefore tailor my teaching approach to suit individual needs. I emphasize building strong fundamentals in technique, posture, rhythm, and expression to ensure steady and confident growth.

My teaching methodology focuses on discipline, body alignment, and detailed understanding of movement and expression. I believe that classical dance is not only about performance but also about storytelling and cultural expression. I guide students step by step, ensuring they develop both technical precision and artistic depth in their practice.

I have actively participated in various competitions and have received recognition and awards for my performances. One of my significant achievements is being awarded the CCRT National Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to dance and enriched my understanding of performance excellence.

I conduct online classes and aim to make classical dance accessible to students regardless of their location. Through structured training, consistent practice, and focused guidance, I help students build confidence in performance while developing a strong appreciation for Indian classical dance traditions. My goal is to inspire students to carry forward these rich art forms with dedication and pride.
