Ask a Question
In "r + vowel', r is pronounced; for example, "pray" where 'r' is followed by a vowel 'a'. However, in the case of 'r + consonant' like, 'perk' where 'r' is followed by the consonant 'k', to make the sound of 'r' our tongue needs to be rotated, so the sound is called "rhotic r". This ''rhotic r" sound is there in American English but is not present in British English. As we Indians follow British English generally, so in such cases, we do not pronounce "r".
