Gharanas are styles in kathak. There are two famous gharanas. One is Lucknow. Lucknow gharana has more grace. Second is Banaras gharana. Banaras gharana has more on stiffness.

Kathak is from Uttar Pradesh esp Bananas while KATHAKALI is from kerala .. as the name suggests is dance with a story ... like incidents in bhagavstam or Mahabharstam or Ramayana etc
