I teach students online and in my immediate locality. I emphasize improvisation and using one's voice as a form of expression, so that students are enabled to utilise their own knowledge from the start of their learning journeys. Mastery in singing, to me, isn't merely about technical proficiency, but about ease in self-expression; how much a person feels comfortable using their own voice, or appreciates their own voice, is central to learning to sing. I run a Carnatic music server on Discord that values informal, peer-supported learning - although simple enjoyment of Carnatic music comes first!
