Newton's Second law gives the relation between force and momentum. A mathematical equation for calculating the force. F=ma (or) F=(mv-mu)/t.
First law defines force in terms of inertia, i.e., the state of motion(rest/uniform motion) remains the same in the absence of external force so, if the external force is zero.
Then F=0, m(v-u)/t=0
m(v-u)=0
v-u=0
v=u.
So there is no change in velocity. Therefore the state of motion remains the same.
