It simply says that subject should agree with the verb.If the subject is singular,the verb should be singular and if the subject is plural,the verb should be plural. Ex: Vishakha plays chess. It simply says that subject should agree with the verb.If the subject is singular,the verb should be singular and if the subject is plural,the verb should be plural. 

Ex: Vishakha plays chess.   Here the subject vishakha is singular , so the verb should be singluar too. Hence to represent a singular verb we put s/es as a suffix to the verb and to represent a plural verb we don't use s/es as a suffix to the verb.
