Before you start getting ready to return to work, it's worth having a think about your situation. Potential employers will ask why you took the break, what you did and also why you want to come back. Employer will ask several questions. They aren't trick questions but if you don't think about how you would answer them, you can quickly look suspect. Another thing to consider is what type of work you want to do. Don't just start applying in a panic, think about the hours, location and sector of your next employment. Again, if an employer doesn't think you are serious about the application, they will assume you are preparing to take another break and so will focus on another candidate. read less

If you think of it as a gap, it is difficult to overcome. If you think of it as a break, it is manageable. It all depends on how you present this time interval. What was the reason for this "gap"? If you can show some personal development or learning or some other experience gained in this time period, then you can easily convince an employer to hire you based on your skill set match, over looking this "gap". You need to present this in the resume itself. Do not let the resume have some gaps, which you have to explain in an interview. then you have very little chance once the interviewer gets the feeling that you have "hidden" something. Hi Arya, The best part of a job in IT is one can take a break at any point of time and get back whenever he/she is willing to do so. Now, having said that; let me also add the fact here. Which is one should be having a valid reason for taking a break. Mention the reason clearly to the Human Resources associate while the CV/Resume gets shortlisted and also, one should show their enthusiasm that they are willing to get back to work in the specified position. There is a misconception that once you take a break it becomes tough to crack a job. That is actually not true; In my career I have taken two breaks so far and on the verge of taking another break in two months :) . But anytime, we should have genuine reason and huge confidence than normal, we should justify our-self very clearly before going to the IT industry interviews. read less

If you think you are strong in finance and costing, I would suggest you a SAP FICO course which is definitely always in demand. if you have an experience as a end user on SAP PLM / Documentation etc, even a course on SAP PLM DMS should be good.
