Prerequisite: You should be an expert in any programming language at the conceptual and implementation level. Follow the following steps:
Implement some advance level program in C using arrays.
Practice some programming on string and string operations (very helpful in Data structure).
Read text book for data structure to understand the subject at conceptual level.

1. Implement some basic programs in C.
2. Implement some advance level programs in C using arrays.
3. Practice some programming on string and string operations (very helpful in Data structure)
4. Read the textbook for the data structure to understand the subject at a conceptual level.
5. Suggested books are: Introduction to Algorithms is a book on computer programming by Thomas H. Cormen, Data Structures Using C and C++ by Aaron M. Tenenbaum.
6. To understand the data structure at the conceptual level, use some simulation tools like http://www.cs.armstrong.edu/liang/animation/animation.html.
7. Implement 20-25 programs on Data structures.
8. Go through an online test, YouTube video to become expert in the Data structure.

Pick any programming language to say "C". Implement 10-20 basic program in C then implement 10-15 advance level program in C. At this level, you will be able to know how to represent and store the information which is having more than one data type. Read data structures from any textbook. Try to implement the program using data structure. More you do practice you learn, and more you get confident. Listen to some youtube video. Make your concepts more transparent. If you are good at programming and not expert at the level of concept then consult an expert. All the best.
