Asking certain things daily in a playful way might help a lot. The kids at this age cannot sit in one place and write for hours together. So teaching them while playing relating it to their favourite toys or cartoon characters would work.

I guess presentation has more impact on the audience than showing it on the whiteboard—moreover, it's time-consuming too.
