Jagadeesh Chandra Setty

Hello! I am Jagadeesh Chandra, a mathematics educator and learning design professional with over 25 years of combined experience in teaching and learning material design. I spent 10 years teaching mathematics to students across different levels, including Classes 8, 9, and 10, higher secondary students, and undergraduate students majoring in mathematics. I hold a Master's degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Education. I have also spent over 15 years working as an instructional designer with leading organizations, including Wipro and Optum. This experience has helped me develop a deep understanding of instructional methodologies, learning strategies, and how to make complex concepts easier to understand. My teaching philosophy is simple: conceptual understanding comes first. I believe mathematics is not just about memorizing formulas or solving problems mechanically. It is about understanding why a concept works, how it connects to what we already know, and where we can apply it in real life. My approach to teaching follows four key principles: First, understand the concept. I explain mathematical ideas in simple language and connect them to familiar situations through relatable examples and analogies. Second, practice step by step. I introduce problems in a graded manner, starting with the basics and gradually moving towards more challenging questions. Third, think beyond the textbook. I encourage students to apply what they learn to unfamiliar problems and different scenarios, helping them develop confidence and independent problem-solving skills. Finally, see mathematics from the learner's perspective. My background in education and instructional design has taught me to anticipate where students might struggle and explain concepts in ways that make sense to them. I know the subject and science behind how people learn.
