How do we define Marg Sangeet?

Marga Sangeet is the use of music to find path to moksha.Earlier the only sangeet was marga sangeet to reach god. That had rules that couldn't be changed.. No one was allowed to make improvisations.

The Sanskrit root word of Marga is mrg "which indicates contemplation and seeking. That which was discovered by Brahma and (first) practiced by Bharata and others in the audience of lord Shiva is known as marga, which definitely bestows prosperity.

The Bharat Natya Shastra divides Music into various categories . For exampale On the one hand we have the clasical dance forms such as BharatNatyam, Kathakali , Kathak and so on in other hand we have dances like garba , bhangra , ext. Although these are all dances, they fall into two distinct categories , that is : Margi (Classical) and Desi (Folk or Regional). 

Marg sangeet is the sangeet, which helps us to get divine blessings. In today's context, the form of Marg sangeet which is preserved till today is in West Bengal the Vaishnavs under Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu sing uniquely with particular rhythms (tabla not used but mridanga or special dholak is used). One more example is Haveli Sangeet, which is composed in a specific form in the Nathdwara Srikrishna temple in Gujrat and it is being carried over from centuries by the temple musicians.
